Join in the annual celebration of the sea
Seaweek facilitates learning from and celebrating the spectacular sea that surrounds us.
Our mission is to provide opportunities for all people to discover the ways our lives are connected to the sea. Ocean-inspired community engagements, experiences in nature and hands-on learning can strengthen connections and inspire care for our marine environment – so we encourage you to celebrate our marine environment by learning something new and sharing that with someone else!

All thanks to collaboration
Seaweek celebrations are organised by a wide range of groups across the country, and aligned with environmental education and awareness campaigns at an international level. Dating back to its beginnings in Western Australia in 1988, since Seaweek reached New Zealand, it has been embraced and promoted by education and conservation organisations nationally.
We owe a huge thanks to all stakeholders, partners and funders for supporting Seaweek year after year. Special thanks to Foundation North for funding which has enabled a wide variety of events in Auckland and Northland over the past several years. We would also like to recognise Rata Foundation for funding some events around the top of the South for the second year in a row.
Seaweek 2025 is endorsed by the UNESCO Decade for Ocean Science.
