National Ocean Inspired Art Competition

15th February to 15th March, 8am-11:59pm

We want to ‘sea’ your artwork!

Art is a beautiful way to express our connection with the ocean, as well as raise awareness about the challenges facing our marine environment. This Seaweek we are hosting an art competition that is inspired by the ocean!

We challenge you to create a piece to submit connected to one of our two themes.

Themes

You can interpret these themes in any creative way you would like to!

  1. How I Connect with the Ocean
  2. Human Impact on Our Ocean

Materials

Feel free to use any medium you choose! From paint and pencils to sculptures using 3D objects, sand, rubbish, the possibilities are endless! But please make sure you consider your impact on the environment with the art you create. Please create something new for your entry and please note that this is not a photography competition. The photograph should be of the art piece you created. Individual submissions should be done individually; group submissions should be done collaboratively. One source of inspiration may be a Seaweek event near you!

Age Groups

Ika (Fish) – Age 10 and under

Whai (Stingray) – Between age 11-16

Mangō (Shark) – 17 and over

New this year a group project entry! Ranga ika (School of Fish) – Group of 2+ people ages 18 and under

The deadline for entries is the 15th of March

All entries can be submitted by submitting a clear photo of your artwork along with some information about you. You will also be asked for the title of your piece and a description of your inspiration behind creating it. Submit your entries here!

There will be a winner for each age group for each theme! These winners will receive a prize and have their work displayed on the Seaweek website. All artwork will be a part of this year’s Ocean Inspired Art Competition Gallery- similarly to last year’s gallery!

The judges (from Seaweek, Sir Peter Blake MERC and RAFT Studios) are looking for originality, creativity and how well the artwork expresses the theme. Prize winners will be notified via email from Seaweek after the close of the competition.

We look forward to seeing how creative you can get in expressing your passion for our moana!
