Blockhouse Bay Beach Biodiversity Hunt

27th February to 27th February, 1pm-3pm

There’s a lot more to the Manukau Harbour’s muddy shores than meets the eye. From burrowing anemones to snapping shrimp, paddle crabs to predatory snails, this unassuming habitat is home to a wide range of exciting creatures.

So why not come and meet these curious critters?

Join us at Blockhouse Bay Beach on Friday 27th February during low tide to survey the harbour’s biodiversity and learn more about this fascinating ecosystem. We will be using Marine Metre Squared to measure the biodiversity and iNaturalist, which means that all animal discoveries you make will be part of a NZ-wide citizen science project!

Bring your hat, sunscreen, suitable beach footwear (it’ll be muddy, so make sure you wear something you don’t mind getting wet!) and drink bottle. You can also download the free iNaturalist app on your phone – this will be really handy when it comes to identifying what you find.

The event time will be confirmed closer to the date. For more information please email andrian@whauriver.org.nz and check for more details via Facebook.
